Overview
Azulik Inla hides behind a raw wooden door in the lanes of Dar El Bacha, in the northern medina, and the door gives nothing away. Inside, the house unfolds over three levels, each named after a town of the Yucatán. Valladolid, the open-air patio, is where the evening begins, with tables set around a central courtyard where Moroccan craft meets Latin American accents. Mérida, upstairs, is quieter: small salons with earthen walls, old objects, raw wood and low light, where the noise of the medina falls away. Tulum, the rooftop, sits under a pergola that casts graphic shadows over wooden tables, among cacti, pottery and jute, and is made for a drink at sunset. The kitchen is Latin with a Mediterranean streak: tacos on house-made corn tortillas, ceviches, seasonal meats and vegetables, sauces made in house and slow cooking learned from Latin American tradition. The bar is built around tequila and mezcal, with wines, champagnes and spirits alongside, so the rooftop works as well for cocktails as the patio does for dinner. Open every evening from 6pm, it is one of the few places in the medina where a restaurant and a cocktail bar share the same house without either feeling secondary.
