Overview
Mizaan sits in Gueliz, the younger sibling of L'Mida in the medina, and its name means "balance" in Arabic. Designed by Yacine Sidali of YStudio and built by local artisans with traditional Moroccan materials, the room draws on the city's vernacular architecture, ancient rock carvings and the legacy of the Seven Saints of Marrakech, while steering well clear of orientalist cliché. Chef Alaoui's kitchen brings Moroccan tradition together with influences from the Orient and the Mediterranean, in plates designed for the centre of the table. The Mizaan Roll fills brioche with crab, prawns and a truffle mayonnaise, the pizzetta comes on traditional tafernout bread with burrata, and grilled kefta skewers, mini tacos, a ceviche and a beef Wellington fill out a menu that rewards ordering widely. It is open every day from noon, until 1am from Sunday to Wednesday and until 2am from Thursday to Saturday. As the sun sets the room turns festive, with signature cocktails and the house playlists setting the pace. Behind the kitchens hides 08.08, the house speakeasy, where the night keeps going for those in the know.
